Vatica stapfiana Malaysia
A single germinating nut of a tree identified as Vatica stapfiana was planted in January 2014 in a polybag with topsoil in 50% shade at the nursery of INTROP-UPM. The species is considered as endangered by the IUCN.

The mother tree is located at Shah Alam Taman Botani: http://pericopsis.org/trees/id.php?tid=429324

The picture has been taken in June 2014 and shows a seedling that has stopped its growth. One reason could be the fact that the root tip has been damaged during plantation. To my opinion, the main reason is that this species needs specific conditions maybe the presence of other species or a soil containing a network of some specific ectomycorrhizal fungi.

Another Vatica stapfiana has been spotted and the growth of new seedlings should be tested. http://pericopsis.org/trees/forum/topic.php?t=5
Vatica stapfiana Malaysia
I got an accident experience which lead to I nice learning in germinating the Vatica stapfiana. I intentionally leave some seed of V. stapfiana in a close plastic bag for about two months at hot and dry place on our house's terrace. Once i opened the plastic, I discovered most of the seeds well germinate. This circumstance touch me that constant heat and and low humidity act chiefly to germinate the seed. The fruit skin of V. stapfiana is very thick. My understanding is that the constant heat is potentially ease to break their thick skin and the low humidity helps plays to sprout out the root.
