Dear Leong,

Seems you had a nice holiday in a beautiful place.
As the photo is not complete, I can only guess the [1] photo. It can be Dyera costulata. The subsequent photo shows a tree having compound leaves but the branching is not the typical of Dyera costulata. Base on the occurrence of marginal vein, the [2] photo is potentially of Myrtaceae (the guava family). I could not identify the tree of the subsequent photo. The [3] photo is Callisia repens from the family Commelinaceae. The plant is commonly used in horticulture and native to Southern America up to Argentina.

Enjoy the green
Khadijah

Thanks Dr Khadijah!!

Actually the location was inside quarry mine, usually visitors only allowed on weekend since on weekdays the workers are blasting the mountains for limestone harvesting.

Sadly those mountains and rock are disappearing slowly.

Hope to see you guys on sunday's activity

Malaysia is a Paradise!

Even a quarry looks like a dream place... Malaysia has large surfaces of igneous rocks and limestone (that is used as a component of cement) is rare. Several plant species colonizing limestone have evolved and differentiate independently and are only found there. Building with concrete has a big environmental cost!

If the quarry is formed by limestone, therefore it may hold many endemic species. The high soil acidity of limestone is one of the factors in forming the endemic occurrence.
