Thailand (particularly the northern part) has already different climate regime compared to Indonesia and Malaysia. On this region, deciduous plants are common which therefore the forests will "turn brown" during certain months. Planting Ficus trees on such kind of forests may create patches of greenery throughout the the years. Ficus trees are commonly green for the whole year which another good point of them.

According to your post, the survival rate of Ficus trees is 30%. If the growth rate is similar to Ficus globosa (given in "From Khaompangma to plantations pho), I am optimist that you will see the transformation of land surface within few years ahead "patches of greenery on a big surface of brownish landscape where it is adorned by wild animals" - what a heavenly scenery!
