Vatica in Shah Alam, Malaysia
Spotted a tree from the genus Vatica (Dipterocarpaceae) fruiting in Shah Alam Taman Pertanian. Vatica are usually smaller and slower growing than other dipterocarpaceae. The species is probably Vatica stapfiana due to woody calyx lobes united to the nut and 10-nerved leaves.

Vatica stapfiana occurs from southern peninsular Thailand to the southern Malay peninsula and Sumatra. The species is classified as endangered by the IUCN http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/33154/0

The picture was taken on the 1st of May 2014. There were no fruits (nuts) fallen on the floor indicating that they were unripe. The nuts might have ripened at present.
