Dipterocarpus grandiflorus
Hi everyone,

It is still regarding the activity we did in Kampong Sungai Dua, Bentong, Pahang. We were so fortunate for the presence of two young participants: Shila and Firdaus (siblings) who were very enthusiast in gathering the seeds and searching for young plants.

Shila, She Mei, Bernard Eng, and Firdaus.

As some fruits already germinated, we directly planted them in small polybags to avoid the root being dried out. Documentation is one of the most important action to be conducted to keep the track of the collected seed. We wrote the basic information for example the identified species (if any), the date and the locality. The collected fruits/seeds were distributed among the participants for germination.

The most exciting moment we had during this trip is the finding of Dipterocarpus grandiflorus fruit. Literally, the name of this species means "the fruits which has two wings and big flower".

The plantlets or fruits of Dipterocarpus grandiflorus later are raised at private nurseries of the participants.

Note the dark purple color of the young leaf
